THE Wave Pictures will play The Crescent, in The Crescent, York, on February 19 on the back of tomorrow's release of their vinyl-only new album, A Season In Hull.

Printed on their own Wymeswold Records label, the record was made on acoustic guitars in one room, with a bunch of their friends, recording live into one microphone on singer Dave Tattersall’s birthday, January 28, last year.

The songs were written as quickly as possible and the recording captures that specific moment in all its spontaneous glory. As Tattersall elaborates: “That’s what this is: a one-microphone happy birthday recording.”

Last year, The Wave Pictures' Jonny Helm, Dave Tattersall and Franic Rozycki released Great Big Flamingo Burning Moon, their collaborative album with cult English painter, author, poet, photographer, filmmaker, singer and guitarist Billy Childish.

Expect songs from both albums plus earlier Wave Pictures works at the 7.30pm gig, when support will come from Tigercats and Chorusgirl. "We've added these two great London indie-pop bands to the bill," says Please Please You promoter Joe Coates. "Some of you will have seen Tigercats at The Basement in York last April; they were spot on and it's great to have them back. Chorusgirl have released their debut album on Fortuna Pop and have been receiving a lot of radio play too."

Tickets cost £10 at pleasepleaseyou.com or in person from The Inkwell in Gillygate, York, or Jumbo Records, in St John's Centre, Leeds or £12 on the door.
