THE University of York Choir performs Brahms's Ein Deutches Requiem and songs by Brahms and Strauss at Central Hall, University of York, on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

Soloists will be soprano Marina Theodoropoulou, bass Robert Davies and piano duo Nicky Losseff and Ben Horden, under the baton of conductor Peter Seymour.

"Brahms's German Requiem is one of the great choral masterpieces of all time," said Mr Seymour. "This is a sacred but not a liturgical composition and Brahms's own arrangement of the original orchestral material allows a greater intimacy, precision and contrapuntal clarity than that possible in the orchestral version.

"Our two outstanding soloists, Marina Theodoropoulou and Robert Davies, both of whom have appeared previously with the choir, preface the Requiem with German Lieder from the later part of the 19th century."
