REDCAR soft rock singer Chris Norman returns with his first album in four years on September 18.

Released through Solo Sound Records, the boundary-straddling Crossover covers a wide range of influences, genres and styles 40 years since the Yorkshireman launched his career with Smokie, the Bradford band he led in their Seventies and Eighties' purple patch.

“The title just seemed appropriate because of the variety of styles of the songs, which cross from one genre to another,” says Norman, whose new album features a bonus track, Forty Years On, a remix of the song he penned for the 40th anniversary release, Smokie Gold 1975-2015.

Norman, 64, wrote Crossover over the course of five months. "I decided not to follow any kind of style and just worked on any song I came up with no matter what direction," he says. "I took no notice if it was rock or country or whatever; the only thing I went by was if it was a good song and I felt it suited my voice.”

Opening track Waiting will be the new album’s first single. You will have to wait for news of British gigs, however; Norman will embark on an 18-date German tour in November, with more dates elsewhere to be announced shortly.
