RATHER than embarking on a grand celebration, The Unthanks will mark their tenth anniversary quietly with a short tour of small, intimate spaces and a pared-back line-up. All Saints Church, Pocklington, will play host to Tyneside sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank on Sunday, November 15.

The Unthanks reckon that if folk music is a lifelong pursuit, ten years is but a drop in the ocean; a philosophy that will see the sisters eschew an exploitative Best Of in favour of an as-yet-unnamed collection of rarities, live recordings, memorabilia and unreleased material to accompany the tour.

Rachel and Becky are joined in The Unthanks line-up by Rachel's husband, the pianist, producer, arranger and composer, Adrian McNally. Using the traditional music of the North East as a starting point, their eight albums to date bear such varied influence as Steve Reich, Miles Davis, Sufjan Stevens, Robert Wyatt, Antony & The Johnsons, King Crimson and Tom Waits.

Welcoming The Unthanks to Pock, concert organiser Janet Farmer, general manager of Pocklington Arts Centre, says: "We're extremely pleased to be working with The Unthanks on their tenth anniversary tour. The band have performed at the arts centre on numerous occasions in the past decade, and for this very special show, we're staging it in the beautiful historic surroundings of All Saints Church, known locally as the Cathedral of the Wolds.

"Their latest album, Mount The Air, was released to universal acclaim earlier this year and the band have just been confirmed to play the main Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury next month with a 26-piece orchestra conducted by Charles Hazlewood. So we're expecting tickets to sell very quickly and are advising people to book in advance."

Tickets for the 7.30pm concert are available at £22 from Pocklington Arts Centre, on 01759 301547 and at pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk
