YORKSHIRE Bach Choir presents Mozart’s Requiem and Haydn’s Maria Theresa Mass at St Michael le Belfrey, York, on Saturday night at 7.30pm.

The soloists will be soprano Wendy Goodson, alto Nancy Cole, tenor Jason Darnell and bass Jamie Wright and, as ever, the conductor will be Peter Seymour.

“We return once again to the mystery and magic of Mozart’s ever popular, but unfinished, Requiem,” says Peter. “We’re lucky to have the opportunity to continue performing Duncan Druce’s authoritative completion, which was actually commissioned by Yorkshire Bach Choir in 1989 and is now published by Novello.

“Haydn’s six late mass settings are a pinnacle of their period, characterised by the vigour and brilliance of the writing for instruments and voices. The Maria Theresa Mass is no exception, combining classical elegance with the extraordinary musical wit and imagination of the composer’s dazzling late period.

The four soloists each have strong associations, either past or present with the choir.

“Wendy, who currently sings with us, and Jason are established solo artists on the York concert platform,” says Peter. “They’ll be singing alongside Nancy and Jamie, alumni of the choir, who are on the cusp of exciting singing careers studying at the Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music respectively.”
