Welsh duo Richard and Adam Johnson returned to York on their second UK tour, bringing familiar songs and classic film hits.

The brothers, who first came to prominence on Britain’s Got Talent, went on to release a top selling debut album, The Impossible Dream, which stayed at number one for four consecutive weeks.

The first half saw both brothers demonstrating their obvious vocal talents with the likes of Moon River, Be My Love and Without You.

Unfortunately, their on-stage banter between numbers wasn’t quite up to par, hampered by a stilted delivery and an overreliance on corny humour.

Nevertheless, their singing was undeniably strong, bolstered further by guest appearances from vocalist Sophie Evans and the Lucy McClean Pop Choir.

Things continued into the second half in much the same fashion. While songs like Maria and Nessun Dorma proved definite crowd-pleasers, the operatic vocal style Richard and Adam stoically refused to deviate from did not gel so well with some of their other songs. While certainly talented, the lack of variation began to wear on some among the audience.

Richard and Adam At The Movies turned out to be a mixed bag. While some elements were extremely strong, the lack of diversity and their apparent reluctance to step outside their comfort zone did leave some cold. It would have been nice to see them try something a bit different.
