SENSUAL and feisty accordion player and vocalist Pascuala Ilabaca, a favourite on the young Chilean singer-songwriter scene, will make her National Centre for Early Music debut in York on Sunday at 7.30pm on her first British tour.
Pascuala’s music is rooted in traditional South American sounds but also integrates shades of jazz, pop and rock, and influences gathered from India and Mexico. Accompanied by her band Fauna, she sets songs alive with fragility and verve.
Picking up the legacy of the great Violeta Parra, her biggest inspiration, this engaging young musician from the port city of Valparaiso has a big following at home in Chile and is now striding out confidently to conquer York and the world with songs from the album Busco Paraiso, released on the Petit Indie label.
