TASHI Lhunpo Tibetan Monks give an insight into the world of sacred music and monastic dance from the contemplative, mesmerising chant of Buddhist texts and mantras to majestic brocade-costumed masked dances at the National Centre for Early Music, York, on Thursday next week.
Ancient musical instruments from the Tibetan Tantric tradition will be used, including the conch-shell trumpet, horns made from human leg bones, skull-drums and meditation bells, while the dungchen – long horns – will be accompanied by cymbals, bells and drums in this rare chance to experience an endangered culture.
Tickets for the Tibetan Monks' 7.30pm performance of The Power Of Compassion cost £14, concessions £12, students £5, on 01904 658338 or at ncem.co.uk
