THE Steve Cassidy Band will launch his new album, Stories And Memories, at Sunday's 7.30pm concert at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York.

Steve will showcase at least four songs from the record, including the ballad Only Love, Make My Day, Brand New Day and the album's only cover version, You Don't Know Me, the Eddy Arnold song that gave Ray Charles a number nine hit in September 1962.

All the original songs on Stories And Memories are by Steve, who recorded the album at home and was joined on the recording sessions by saxophone, keyboard and piano player Dave Kemp and guitarist Steve Flanagan, who both will play at Sunday's show alongside Mick Hull on bass and Brian Thomson on drums.

The recordings were remixed and mastered at Pollen Studios in Bishop Wilton. Among the tracks – and on this weekend's set list, too – will be Music Man, Steve's tribute to York-born composer John Barry.

"The song was written shortly after John died and has a backing track recorded in California," says Steve, who recorded with John Barry in the 1960s, when Barry gave him the stage name he has used ever since as Norman Fowler became Steve Cassidy.

Sunday's concert also will feature Steve's reflection on war, Little Poppy Of Flanders, to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War. Guest spots will go to York singer, songwriter and actressTerri Ann Prendergast and the Happy Monday's Ukulele Band, after their popular contribution to Steve's previous concert.

Tickets cost £10, concessions £9, on 01904 623568, 01904 870737 or 01904 639117, online at stevecassidy.co.uk or on the door.
