BARNSLEY folk linnet Kate Rusby will return to York Barbican on December 12, this time with her star-lit Kate Rusby At Christmas show.

Kate last played the Barbican in November 2013 and previously performed her Christmas set of South Yorkshire carols and festive songs there in 2012.

Once more, Kate and her band will be joined by her Brass Boys Quintet for a night of songs from her two two Yorkshire Christmas albums, Sweet Bells and While Mortals Sleep.

She also promises one or two songs from her new studio album, Ghost, which she launched at her new festival, Underneath The Stars, at Cannon Hall Farm, South Yorkshire, last month. Available through katerusby.com and Amazon.co.uk and digitally through iTunes, the 12 tracks combine traditional and new Rusby songs, performed with a “fresh new sound that experiments with effects and electric guitar sounds”.

“We had great fun in the studio creating all different sounds to enhance the songs, it’s something we haven’t really tried before,” says Kate.

“Damien O’Kane and myself jointly produced Ghost so his influence has rubbed off greatly. He wanted to explore the world of effects, to see how we could use sounds to draw the listener’s ear to a different side of my music, so it’s been a fantastic journey making this album.”

Tickets for the 7.30pm concert are on sale at £22, under 16s £15, on 0844 854 2757, online at yorkbarbican.co.uk or in person from the Barbican box office, 10am to 2pm, Monday to Friday.
