BARCODE Zebra are to launch their second EP, Another Day, on July 19 at City Screen's Basement bar in York at 8pm.
"We're a York and Leeds soul-tinged funky four-piece who write and play original material; imagine the love child of Tracy Chapman and the Red Hot Chili Peppers," says keyboards player Charlie Daykin, such a stalwart of the York music scene.
"We've toured Holland and Germany three times in the past 12 months, headlining shows at The Waterhole in Amsterdam and in York’s twin town of Munster, and we've performed this summer at the Apollo Festival and Little Festival of Live Music Festival in York, as well as headlining the Moonbeams Stage at Beverley folk Festival."
Barcode Zebra also have supported Toyah, David McAlmont, Paul Carrack and Chantel McGregor, appeared on BBC Radio York and Radio Leeds and played a host of festivals this year, such as Hull FreedomFestival, Doncaster Live, L Fest, Feva Fest and Mama Stones in Exeter.
Charlie is familiar to so many York musicians from running The Jam Factory recording studios and rehearsal space in Eldon Street. He is joined in Barcode Zebra by soulful York singer and guitarist Jess Gardham, a former finalist in the BBC Radio Two Songwriter Search, plus drummer and keyboards player Emma Whitehead and bassist and backing singer Ruth Wilde.
Special guests on the night from 8.15pm will be the Isi Dee Band with their acoustic-driven pop and harmony specialists Armonia. Tickets cost £4 in advance online at thebasement.co.uk or on 0871 902 5726 or £5 on the door.
