LET'S Go Baboon, Stuart and Claire Gibb's new addition to York's roster of music promoters, are linking up with Joe Coates's Please Please You organisation for the first time to co-present a gig at The Basement bar, City Screen, on Saturday. Shield Patterns, Kites Of San Quentin and U.V. will share the 8pm bill.

"Shield Patterns, the newly formed project of Claire Brentnall and Richard Knox, have shown a sophistication beyond their age with first single The Rule gathering attention for its blend of minimalism, fragility and warmth," says Stuart Gibb.

"After retiring to the wilderness and isolation of the North Wales countryside to record their debut album, the duo return with new single Dust Hung Heavy and a UK tour." The album is scheduled for June.

Knox, founder of the semi-experimental indie label Gizeh Records, has performed Please Please You shows a number of times, both as part of his slow-core outfit Glissando and backing Belgian songstress Chantal Arca in Sleepingdog.

"So it was with great interest we pressed play on The Rule, the debut single from the new Manchester electronic duo featuring Mr Knox and Claire Bruntnall," says Joe Coates.

"There's glittering production as we've come to expect and complex synth and drum machine backing, layered with such thought and precision, that forms an apparently simple backdrop for the gracefully dramatic sound of Claire's voice. Quite sublime.

"New single Dust Hung Heavy, a powerful, sensual and expansive electronic trip, arrived this month with remixes from Thom from Alt-J, Dutch Uncles and a version of The Rule by Thinnen."

Now comes Saturday's debut co-promotion. "The suggestion from Let's Go Baboon that we should really be sorting a show out was obviously met with open arms," says Joe. "So here we have it."

Tickets cost £5 online at thebasementyork.co.uk or £6 on the door from 8pm.
