THE University of York Choir and Symphony Orchestra present works by Sibelius, Syzmanowski and Bruckner at Central Hall, University of York, on March 5.
Sibelius’s rarely performed, enigmatic Symphony No 6 in D minor moves from deceptive serenity to drama, while Szymanowski’s Stabat Mater was completed in 1926 when he was increasingly influenced by Polish folk music and history, as well as Ravel and Stravinsky and the Renaissance masters. This piece will act as a foil to Bruckner’s dramatic and powerful setting of the Te Deum.
Soloists will be soprano Susan Young, mezzo soprano Cara Curran, tenor Matthew Moss and bass Benjamin Lewis and the conductor will be John Stringer.
• Tickets cost £3 to £17 on 01904 322439, Monday to Friday, 1pm to 3.30pm, and online at YorkConcerts.co.uk
Children aged under 16 will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult ticket holder.
