Only one question for… Singer, songwriter and percussive acoustic guitarist Newton Faulkner.
Who will be on stage with you at York Barbican on Wednesday night, Newton?
“It’s a mixture. Not quite a ‘band’, but more of a band than I’ve ever had before.
There’s Sam Brookes, who sang on the Studio Zoo album, and will be opening the show too.
“My brother Toby, who wrote the album with me, will be harmonising with me and Beth Porter will play cello and she’s a rocking Asian zither player as well.
“I’ll be playing as many things as possible as a guitarist and one-man rhythm section with an octave worth of bass pedal for one foot and a kick drum for the other.
“One thing I have to do, which I never anticipated in order to play this way, is do a huge amount of physical exercise to have enough strength in my back. So I do weight balance work and rowing for that, and it’s also important for my lung capacity that I shift my weight to keep a solid pulse with my feet when I perform.”
