GUITARIST Richard Durrant plays a candlelit Christmas concert at the Milton Rooms, Malton tonight, after hot-footing it to North Yorkshire from Paraguay.
He enjoyed a sun-drenched fortnight’s visit there, celebrating the reopening of the British Embassy at a gala concert in Asunción and playing concerts around the South American country.
Durrant’s 8pm concert will showcase his new album, Christmas Guitars, which features guest vocalist Amy Kakoura and the unmistakable gravelly tones of Barry Cryer.
Tonight’s highlights will include early English carols, Finnish Christmas songs and Durrant's guitar suite The Polar Bear, with narration recorded by Cryer, who recites haiku verses to accompany Durrant's depiction of a mother bear and her cubs' desperate swim for survival through the Arctic ice.
Tickets cost £10 on 01653 600048 or at themiltonrooms.com or £12 on the door from 7.30pm. Christmas Guitars is available on LongMan Records.
