YORK party band Huge will headline the Saturday party day on October 26 at this year’s tenth anniversary Pocktoberfest at the Old Station, Pocklington.
Led as ever by Big Ian Donaghy, the nine-piece will play covers ranging from Amy Winehouse, Robbie Williams, Michael Buble, Michael Jackson and Queen to Tom Jones, The Commitments, Barry White, Madness and Stevie Wonder, as well as Seventies’ disco and Motown classics.
Dance routines, a large dose of wit and singalongs galore will add to the fun of a set that spans disco to reggae and rock to ska.
Aside from selling out the Grand Opera House, York, a record 28 times, Huge have shared a stage with Justin Timberlake, played to an audience that included Drew Barrymore, Jimmy Fallon and Cameron Diaz and performed with Lulu and James Blunt in the past year.
The Saturday bill at Pocklington’s music and beer festival also will feature the American alt.country disco band Lumberjack Cowboy Heartbreak Trucking Company with their songs of heartbreak, ponies, cherry pie, faith and murder.
Local lad Jerome will sing everything from soul to swing to ska while Jimbob Doomface will combine vocal expertise with a solid guitar technique.
On Sunday, October 27, Pocktoberfest will present Sheffield guitarist and retro singer Richard Hawley; Squeeze frontman Glenn Tilbrook; American singer-songwriters Tift Merritt and Josh Ritter; York musician Dan Lucas’s folk/Americana collective Boss Caine; and Leeds band Hope & Social. Edwina Hayes, Paul Lidell, Hayley Gaftarnick, TE Morris, Palms 13 and The Gallenders will perform on the Emerging Music Stage.
Pocktoberfest 2013 is organised by Pocklington and Market Weighton Round Table and Pocklington Arts Centre. This year’s event will be supporting the Help For Heroes charity again and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution for the first time.
Add more than 50 real ales, lagers and ciders to the music line-up and the organisers hope to top the £10,000 raised for charity last year.
Saturday tickets cost £10, including festival brochure and souvenir glass. Sunday tickets cost £35 for YO42 postcode adults until August 31, available only from the Pocklington Arts Centre box; otherwise, £38, £30 for under-21s. Family tickets are £110 for two adults and two children aged under 16, or one adult and three children.
