A warm midsummer’s evening in York and a crowd gathered at the Grand Opera House to relive a magical event from their past, the sound of Tamla Motown.

It was tribute to great artists who have stood the test of time and will never be forgotten such as Diana Ross, The Supremes, The Four Tops, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5 and many more.

The show opened with Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone, Love Train and I’m Coming Out released in 1980 by Diana Ross. The band consisted keyboard-player “Mr Showbiz” Jason Warrick, on drums was the “baby of the band” 40-year-old Mark Carter, on bass was Derek Flaxton and on guitar Mike Ellis.

They were accompanied by four male and three female singers who dressed in colourful costumes, changing to suit each song. In one scene the ladies dressed in bright sequinned mini dresses and wore beehive hairdoes transporting the audience happily back to their youth.

The packed house were treated to Under The Broadwalk served a capella style and great songs like Loco in Acapulco, a 1988 hit for the Four Tops.

The second half of the show saw the audience dancing in the aisles' singing, clapping and showing their appreciation for the timeless songs such as Endless Love, Dancing in the Street and Stevie Wonder’s Cherie Amour.

For the encore the whole band sang Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours, a Stevie Wonder hit from the 1970s.
