CITY Screen, York is arranging a York Literature Festival screening of Bill, the comedy shot in North Yorkshire about the young William Shakespeare, roaming the North of England in the days before he became a famous playwright.

"We started planning this last year and it's taken until now to arrange, with the addition of an introduction from Dr John Cooper, a historian at the University of York," says Dave Taylor, City Screen's marketing manager, ahead of Monday's 6.30pm show. "John has written books on the Tudors and on Sir Francis Walsingham, who is played by Laurence Rickard in the film."

After the evening screening, Bill's producer, Tony Bracewell, will take questions from the audience. “We’re very excited to bring Bill back to its spiritual home in York and Yorkshire, where we shot the film with the cast of Horrible Histories two years ago.

"It’s great to support York Literature Festival and to welcome Elizabethan historian Dr John Cooper to introduce the film. You can discover how close our Bill is to the real Shakespeare...”

Bill was filmed at York Minster and Treasurer's House in York; Selby Abbey and elsewhere in Selby; Redmire and Bolton Castle, both near Leyburn, and Skipton Castle.
