LIZ Garbus’s new documentary on Marilyn Monroe will be shown at City Screen, York, on Monday evening with the promise of revealing “new facets” of the Hollywood screen goddess.
Drawing on Monroe’s recently unearthed personal papers, Love, Marilyn (12A) features diverse interviews with those who were intimate with the troubled film star, along with recollections from luminaries such as Truman Capote, Norman Mailer and Henry Miller, recited by prominent actors.
All this will complement footage of Monroe herself unburdening her insecurities with candour. This Marilyn material may be familiar but a combination of clever editing and an astute selection of clips render Love Marilyn a “balanced and ultimately uplifting salute”.
