CITY Screen, York, is to show a season of films selected from the British Film Institute’s extensive project, Gothic: The Dark Heart of Film, from this weekend.

“Britain will be filled with dread and fuelled by lust,” says Heather Stewart, the BFI’s creative director. “Gothic has never been more potent or popular, reflecting the turbulent times we are living in, our deepest fears and hidden passions.”

Dave Taylor, City Screen’s marketing manager, adds: “Following on from our successful Hallowe’en evening, the focus will now be on Sunday afternoons to see real classics such as Bela Lugosi in Dracula and Lugosi again with Lon Chaney Jnr in The Wolf Man.

“We begin this Sunday at 1.30pm with David Lynch’s sympathetic treatment of The Elephant Man (PG) and end with a bang on the evening of December 15 with The Rocky Horror Picture Show – oddly, the first time this will have been shown at City Screen.”
