ANOTHER week, another animated feature. This one includes Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson, Snoop Dogg and Michelle Rodriguez among the vocal talent in a story of racing snails.

The juxtaposition of the words racing and snails can’t help but bring a smile to your face because those aren’t words you’d normally put together.

Life in the tomato patch with his brother Chet (Paul Giamatti) is too slow for Turbo (Reynolds). He wants to be a racer like his hero, French-Canadian Indianapolis 500 champion, Guy Gagne (Bill Hader). Alas he’s a slow coach, as snails tend to be.

Then, like Peter Parker being bitten by a spider and turning into Spiderman, Turbo gets sucked into the engine of a street-racing car and coated in nitrous oxide. This fuses with his DNA and makes his super-fast.

Little wonder he becomes the star attraction at the mollusc races at a rundown strip mall on the outskirts of town. Race organizer and truck driver Tito (Michael Pena) finds a loophole in the rules than enables Turbo to enter the Indianapolis 500.

The animation gives the snails character while the races might not be in the Rush class but are pretty exciting stuff as we root for Turbo to win.
