A STUNNING show of period costumes is coming to York.

The work of students who have taken a four-month training course at the York-based Northern College of Costume will go on display at the college at Market Street on Friday, from 2pm to 8pm, and on Saturday, from 11am to 5pm.

On display will be Mr Darcy-style Regency suits, Victorian gowns, corsets and bustles, classical tutus and glamorous 1940s evening dresses.

Some of the Victorian gowns were modelled as part of a publicity shoot for the show at York Cemetery.

The college is now in its sixth year and building a reputation for practical training. Its graduates are currently creating costumes for companies as diverse as the Globe Theatre to the Disney corporation and the Royal Opera House.

Entrance is free and refreshments will be available.
