THE Quilt Museum in York is launching two new exhibitions called Inspired By The Past and Breakthrough.
Inspired By The Past includes one of The Quilters’ Guild’s most treasured items, a quilt made in 1887 by a Mrs Mills to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee.
The exhibition, at the museum in Peasholme Green, aims to show how historical techniques, style and purpose continue to influence and inspire new textile works. Breakthrough, by the Contemporary Quilt group, focuses on design and innovation.
Together they aspire to demonstrate the affinity between quilt-makers old and new.
One of the guild’s most recent acquisitions, Pink Boat (Dry Dock 1), by internationally-respected textile artist Jo Budd, will also be included in the exhibition.
