The Bowl Of Promises show opens tomorrow morning to herald the start of spring at Pyramid Gallery, in Stonegate, York.

“We’re looking forward to a bright and vibrant spring with paintings by three Yorkshire artists who use colour to great effect in their individual ways,” says gallery owner Terry Brett.

Susan Dennis and Lesley Seeger are well known in their home city of York with differing painting styles that complement each other through their use of still life and nature-inspired compositions. Lesley is exhibiting at Pyramid for the first time, presenting 12 new paintings from the past 12 months that she considers to be her best work to date.

Hannah Stow, from West Yorkshire, uses brightly coloured minimalist imagery to create almost abstract paintings that have a playful or thoughtful appeal. Hannah is an MA graduate from Bretton Hall and a former art teacher in Hebden Bridge, who paints mostly in oils and has a penchant for cats.

All three Yorkshire artists will attend tomorrow’s launch from 11am to 2pm, when wine and nibbles will be served.

The exhibition also features three-dimensional work by Yorkshire raku ceramic artist Eric Moss, Welsh ceramic sculptor of ducks and puffins Tony White and Somerset glassmaker Will Shakspeare.

“I’m hoping that with Easter almost upon us, life might just choose to imitate art and bring us all a beautiful spring and a vibrant summer,” says Terry. “Well, we can offer a bowl of promises for inspiration at the very least.”

The show runs until May 6; opening hours are 10am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and 12 noon to 4pm on most Sundays.

Isabel Wakeman has donated £367 to the Haiti earthquake appeal, via Medecins Sans Frontieres, from the sales of five paintings at her Pyramid Gallery show earlier this year.
