THE Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Dave Taylor, is raising funds for his chosen charities with an exhibition and auction of "some of the most collectible artists of the North" at City Screen, York.

Run in conjunction with the According To McGee gallery, the exhibition is on show until Sunday in the Sky Lounge, on the corridor upstairs at the Coney Street cinema, and will then be taken down for auction. Bids can be made for the artworks at any time before then by emailing Greg McGee at greg@accordingtomcgee.com Well regarded Yorkshire artists are taking part in the Lord Mayor's Charity Art Auction, among them Richard Barnes, Richard Moulton, Lesley Birch, Patrick Smith, Malcolm Ludvigsen, Jo Walton, Eddie Grant and more besides.

Cllr Taylor says: "I’m indebted to Greg and Ails McGee for putting together an exhibition of collectible works from rising artists, and to those artists themselves for their generosity in supporting the Lord Mayor’s charities. Greg will hold a final auction from 8pm on Sunday in City Screen's Riverside bar in what promises to be a fun evening. Be there or be Cubist."

The According To McGee co-director is delighted to be boosting the Lord Mayor's charities, York Civic Trust, St Nicks, York LGBT Forum and York Racial Equality Network. "Firstly, the Lord Mayor of York is a hep cat. Curating an art auction with him is an honour," says Greg.

"Secondly, I run a charity myself – New Visuality – so the idea of dovetailing the selling of art for some great causes is second nature to us. These are great works of art from great local artists, and we’re looking forward to seeing the works snapped up during the bidding process.”
