ART works reflecting the huge wealth of talent on the Yorkshire coast can be seen at Scarborough Art Gallery until Sunday, March 15.

The East Coast Open attracted hundreds of entries from artists, both professional and amateur, and the judges – artist Len Tabner and arts patron Lady Ayckbourn – selected a final exhibition of about 160 pieces, ranging from traditional oils and watercolours to sculptures.

Julie Baxter, Scarborough Museums Trust’s collections assistant, said: “We wanted it to be as open as possible, and to get as many works on the walls as possible. Both Lady Ayckbourn and Len Tabner embraced this and chose with it in mind. It’s a great opportunity for local artists to show their work in the gallery.”

Debbie Seymour, Scarborough Museums Trust chief executive, said: “The quality of the entries for the East Coast Open is staggering – the judges had a tough job whittling them down to their final selection. It’s a must-see exhibition if you’re interested in the arts in this area.”

Entry to the exhibition is £3, which includes entry to Scarborough Art Gallery and the Rotunda Museum for a year.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturdays, from 10am to 5pm. Phone 01723 374753 for details.
