KENTMERE House Gallery, in York, is continuing to mount a special exhibition with a pet theme.

The Scarcroft Road gallery has worked with the York branches of AgeUK and the RSPCA on the show.

“I’ve been involved in setting up Keep Your Pet, a new organisation in York to help elderly people look after their animals, after both organisations had found that worries about their pets can often impede recovery at times of illness,” says Ann Petherick, gallery owner.

On show are original paintings, drawings and etchings of dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs, birds and even a fish or two. Look out for work by artists new to the gallery, such as the intricate and extraordinarily lifelike wire sculptures by Chris Moss, of Harrogate, etchings by Leeds artist Sarah Dunton and delightfully laid-back paintings of men with their dogs by James Fraser, from Edinburgh.

These are shown alongside new pieces by gallery favourites Susan Bower and Elaine Turnbull, more from the late Jack Hellewell’s prolific output, charcoal drawings by Valerie David and the humorous metal sculptures of Mick Kirkby-Geddes and Gavin Darby.

Best In Show, A Celebration Of Animals And Birds In Art, runs at Kentmere House, until January 24.

Opening hours are every Thursday evening, 6pm to 9pm; every weekend this month until December 23, 11am to 5pm; and any other time by arrangement in advance on 01904 656507.
