WE are one of the privileged few to get a look in with comedian Alex Horne this year.

His "When In Rome" UK tour is calling at Roman towns only, a fete he claims has never been done before and predicts will never be tried again. Luckily, York is on the agenda.

"When In Rome" follows the success of Horne's previous two shows, Making Fish Laugh and Every Body Talks.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a summer of success last year, selling out his four-week run at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival and his London West End Run as well.

Now he hopes to build upon his reputation as gag-smith, prolific writer and creative solo performer and win over The Other Side Comedy Club.

Horne promises that the audience decides which direction the show goes and can join in as little or as much as they like.

He describes it as: "A hysterical comedy show as well as a learning experience and if it comes down to a choice between an ablative absolute and a pun, you'll probably get both."

In August 2003, Making Fish Laugh became one of the undisputed hits of the Edinburgh Festival.

The show saw Horne and assistant Kim Key recreate experiments carried out by scientists in 1976 to find out exactly what it is that makes humans laugh.

The following year he returned to Edinburgh with Every Body Talks. He is now developing the show for radio and television.

Catch Alex Horne at The Other Side Comedy Club on Sunday.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £7/6 and are available from City Screen Box office on 01904 541144.
