GLENN Wool plays the Hyena Lounge Comedy Club in The Basement at City Screen, York, on Sunday, enroute to Australia and California.

The riotous Wool was born in Canada, honed his comic talent in Britain and is now based in Los Angeles, having attained international popularity for his rock’n’roll looks, cheeky charm, hunger for fun and taste for the off-the-wall.

“He’s playing only four gigs in the UK this week before heading over to Sydney for a month-long residency, followed by a return to LA to work on his new HBO TV special,” says promoter Toby Clouston-Jones.

“If you’ve been aching to see a guy with Jack Black’s mastery of a playful physical presence, Meatloaf’s wardrobe and Bill Hicks’s political candour tackle homophobia, religious fundamentalism and world politics, then Glenn is your comedian of choice.”

After more than 20 years as a comedian, Sunday’s support act, Andre Vincent, has hit comedy gold by teaming up with Marcus Brigstocke, firstly on BBC2’s The Late Edition and now at comedy and literature festivals with a live version, The Early Edition.

“A master of satire and bang-up-to-date jokes, Andre is one of the only comedians in the country who writes new material every day, and he rates the Hyena Lounge as his favourite small gig in the country,” says Toby.

Sunday’s host, Dan Nightingale, is “easily worth the admission price alone”. “His off-the-cuff banter with audiences is nothing less than stunning and the comparisons with Ross Noble and Jason Byrne are clear for all to see,” says Toby.

Doors open at 7pm for the 7.30pm start.
