Mirth Control Comedy Club returns to Pocklington Arts Centre on Thursday after a summer break with an 8.30pm line-up of MC James Redmond, Christian Steel and headline act Gordon Southern.

“James Redmond is a dry, slick and subtle stand-up who delivers unexpected twists and turns as he deconstructs his art,” says assistant manager James Duffy.

“He has a track record as a model and actor and is best known for his roles in Hollyoaks and Casualty, as well as having presented CD:UK alongside Cat Deeley.”

Since turning to stand-up, Redmond has appeared at The Comedy Store in London and Rawhide in Liverpool, and now he is in line to become the regular master of ceremonies at Mirth Control’s gigs in Pocklington.

Like Redmond, Christian Steel has a background in acting too, in his case performing for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

“He has moved quickly through the stand-up ranks, now performing at clubs all over Europe after being named one of the Amused Moose Hot Starlets for 2006/2007 and being an Otherside Comedy Club and Hackney Empire finalist last year,” says James. “He has a fast-paced Geordie delivery and combines his material with audience participation.”

Gordon Southern has years of comedy experience under his belt, regularly selling out the Comedy Store and Jongleurs.

“His upbeat and energetic delivery combined with his fantastically funny observational comedy and quick-witted improvisation has secured his place as an audience favourite,” says James.

Tickets cost £8 in advance on 01759 301547 or £9 on the door from 8pm.
