JOBY Mageean will be first up on the Duke's Comedy Night's free bill at the Duke of York's bar in King's Square, York, on August 16 at 8pm.

"I've only had the pleasure of gigging with Joby once in my short career but I remember it purely in terms of happiness and affection," says promoter Daniel Triscott. "With an engaging and charming persona, wonderful stories and songs, Joby is pure class when it comes to getting an audience roaring with laughter.

"But please note that he'll be playing a tiny guitar, not a ukulele as some lesser reviewers have made the mistake of saying in the past. On top of which Joby is just a super nice person in real life."

Second on to the stage will be Debra Fayter. "Debra's one of my favourite acts who's gigging around Yorkshire area at the moment. Not only does she have some great stories and isn't afraid to go for a straightforward gag, her charm and warmth is second to none. She's like a loveable comedic mother figure," says Daniel.

"I've gigged with Debra plenty of times and her fantastic style has always done brilliantly with audiences. I highly recommend seeing her at some point in your life as she's just everything about being great."

Yorkshire comedian Steff Todd will mix celebrity impressions and topical one liners. "She's on the list of Funny Women's ones to watch for 2017 and having seen her act, I can really see why," says Daniel.

Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian Competition semi-finalist Liam Elcoat will provide the show's quirky, offbeat comedy. "In his own words, 'alternative act Liam Elcoat is an ugly northern bloke with an affinity for cinema and Lenny Henry," says Daniel.

West Country storyteller and general all-round unfortunate Cornishman Graham Wilkes will be heading north with tales that draw inspiration from his family, friends and his own odd and awkward ways. "Graham is a good friend of mine who I've been looking to get on at the Duke's for ages and August seems to be the time for it to come to fruition," says ex-pat Cornishman Daniel. "Plus Graham has given me loads and loads of gigs in the past so, I pretty much had to have him on at some point."

Seating is essentially first come, first served, but "if you wanna be professional about it, then you can just message me on Facebook," recommends Daniel.
