GRAHAM Fellows’ alter ego, and star of BBC Radio 4’s The Shuttleworths , John Shuttleworth is back on the road with his new stand-up/sit-down tour Out Of Our Sheds.

The Grand Opera House stage was set up in its simplest form: a glitter ball hanging from the ceiling, a microphone and Shuttleworth’s famous electric organ.

As soon as the South Yorkshireman strolled on stage with a lunchbox containing a banana, orange and Tracker bar, the audience were gripped, laughing our loud throughout.

Shuttleworth was dressed in his normal attire – red jumper, beige trousers, brown shoes and brown jacket and glasses – as he interacted with his adoring fans, asking how their night was going.

A connection between audience and Shuttleworth was established by his regular York references, especially when expressing his anger at Nestlé taking over Rowntrees as the KitKats now taste different.

Life Is Like A Salad Bar was the first of many strange but wonderful songs Shuttleworth sang, later contradicting himself by elaborating on how you cannot get “unlimited salad” at most restaurants these days. The audience laughed in agreement.

Throughout, the Sheffield singer/songwriter made reference to his daughter, Carrie, his agent that lives next door, Ken Worthington, and of course his beloved wife Mary.

He spoke touchingly if humorously about how life with Mary and playing his organ can have its ups and down, as well as singing about their nervy “first time on eBay”.

Live dangerously, John!
