NIGE, the Scouse comedy creation of Keith Carter, headlines this weekend's Saturday Night Lounge at the Hyena Lounge Comedy Club in City Screen’s Basement bar in York.
Introducing Nige, Hyena Lounge promoter Toby Clouston-Jones says: “He’s been a failed Liverpudlian singer/musician for over a decade and seems doomed to a life of temping and signing on. Mostly at the same time.
“The two highlights of his showbiz career are having his one and only single played by John Peel and accidentally knocking George Martin into an ice sculpture while drunk.”
In late 2011, Keith Carter finished filming The State Of Nige, a BBC TV pilot chronicling the daily events and encounters of his comedy character.
Dan Nightingale opens Saturday’s show, before heading over to Leeds to headline at The HI Fi Club, and Bethany Black takes the middle spot, mixing dark material with self-deprecation. “Just when you think she’s getting serious on a subject matter, she hits you with a brilliant flow of jokes,” says Toby.
