THE date for the third annual Selby Jobs Fair has been announced.

This year’s event will be at Selby College on October 3, and organisers are already speaking to businesses in and around the area to confirm attendance.

Nigel Adams, MP for Selby and Ainsty, organised the first jobs fair in 2010. He said: “It’s a great venue because the sports hall has the capacity for 45 stands and last year we were slightly over-subscribed, so this year it will be a case of allocating on a first-come, first-served basis to businesses who want to take part.

“Last year more than 1,000 people came and we’ve got no reason to think it would be any less this year. Employers last year said they were impressed with the quality and quantity of people through the door.”

Mr Adams is again working with the college, local businesses and the Job Centre to help ensure there are a number and variety of employers on show at the event. He said: “I think the importance of it is local people get local jobs.

“People otherwise might not know what is in the area, and having this kind of event helps people find out more about their local area and increases local awareness.”

Mr Adams also said that visitors to last year’s event would receive details on the October fair in coming weeks, and more details would be made available online.
