UP to 400 musicians and performers will take part in a major charity concert at the Royal Hall, Harrogate in May to celebrate in music and song the arrival of the Tour de France.

The Chairman's Charity Concert is the culmination of a year-long programme organised by Cllr Bernard Bateman, North Yorkshire County Council’s Chairman, to raise money for his chosen charities – ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the Personnel Recovery Unit at Catterick Garrison.

Cllr Bateman, who has raised over £16,000 during his year as chairman so far, is hoping to raise £30,000 in total.

He says the Chairman’s Charity Concert at The Royal Hall on May 3rd promises to be a fantastic showcase of the remarkable skills and talent of young musicians as well as internationally acclaimed professionals.

The concert will include performances by The Band of the Royal Armoured Corps; the North Yorkshire County Big Band and Concert Band; Selby College Singers; St Cuthbert’s and Dacre Braithwaite School Band as well as opera singer Kate McLaren, euphonium soloist Michael Dodd and Sophie Reed and Joy Sutcliffe who were runners-up in the BBC Young Chorister of the Year.

The concert will take place at The Royal Hall, Harrogate on May 3 at 3pm. Tickets cost £20 or £15 for concessions via the box office (01423) 502116 www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk
