VISITORS to York during the Tour de France will have access to free Wi-Fi under a new scheme.
The CityConnect public Wi-Fi network is an expansion of a pilot which saw free access allowed at the Park & Ride terminals, provided by Pinacl Solutions, with the first to be made available by July.
City of York Council, supporting the project, said the access would be free and able to stream services such as the BBC iPlayer, but will also provide data to measure footfall and how public spaces in the city are being used.
The scheme is receiving funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), as part of York’s status as one of 22 SuperConnected Cities.
