Hunts mock law

PROTECT Our Wild Animals urges the Prime Minister to reject the call for repeal of the Hunting Act by Farming Minister Jim Paice and to denounce and clampdown on the ‘cynical subterfuge’ being employed by hunts nationwide to flout the spirit and letter of the ban on hunting with hounds.

Many hunts exploit weak enforcement and the act’s many loopholes to chase and kill live quarry much as pre-ban.

They pretend to be using certain exemptions or ‘trail hunting’, pretend they lost control of their hounds by ‘accident’ every time they are seen chasing forbidden quarry.

Many hunts mock the authorities and the popular will. They behave as though above the law, as innercity gangs did in August. Like looters, these rural gangsters should be brought to heel.

If its all "a pretence", Alan, that will explain why we have seen so many high profile and successful prosecutions for hunting not in accordance with the law. Oh that's right we haven't seen any have we. There have been something like six successful prosecutions of hunts which have all resulted in minor fines or discharges. All the other prosecutions under the law have been nothing to do with fox hunting.

Face it, it's a useless and ineffectual law, and as difficult to prosecute as trying to prosecute every one of the people that exceeds the speed limit every day in the UK. So comparing those that choose to hunt to looters and calling them a "rural gang" is to show your ignorance as much as your stupidity. You should be deeply embarrassed by your letter and the offensive statements therein.

The Hunting Act is a great success. You need to compare it with other acts designed to protect animals. Why else would hunts keep crying for it to be repealed? Really, these people are so pathetic. You people know your days of animal abuse are over for good! Just accept that, or you'll die bitter, miserable and lonely! Is that how you want to die BioLogic? Do you want to die a bitter and lonely old man?

A great success? I think you need to check your stats. The vast majority of convictions have been for hare coursing and similar and nothing to do with fox hunts.

Why do you say you people? I am not a hunter or supporter, never have been and I am never likely to be.

I am simply someone who sees the hunting act for what it is, a waste of time and money and ineffective.

So personally I will die neither sad or lonely. Alas I'm not so sure the same can be said for you, but you probably ouch to add angry to your list....
