At 12.30am on New Year’s Day I was taking the air at the back door, after seeing in the New Year, when I became aware of a loose formation of ten bright orange lights in the sky, moving quite fast from east to west above York.
Viewed with binoculars, they showed no sign of navigation lights, as one would expect with an aircraft.
They made no sound and had the shape of an egg on its end. They were visible for about six minutes while they passed over, disappearing eventually behind a bank of cloud.
Given the time and date, and the fact that my wife is somewhat sceptical despite seeing them for herself, I am beginning to doubt my eyes. UFOs or pink elephants, did I really see something?
I had a good night, but not that good.
