I WAS very saddened to read that child obesity is soaring in York (The Press, May 14).
I have to disagree with Cllr Stuart Barnes when he stated that there is a lack of green space in Acomb.
We have West Bank Park, Lindsey Avenue and Acomb Green and they all have play areas for the children.
My husband grew up in the Burton Stone Lane district where there was no green space and he remembers playing football and cricket in the back lanes.
I was brought up in the country where we played marbles and hopscotch in the street and in summer were allowed to use a kind and posh lady’s tennis court.
There are plenty of green spaces. All it takes is a little effort to visit them. We have plenty of buses although walking there is more beneficial.
I must admit every time I visit Acomb shops I see lots of children in pushchairs and they are nearly all eating cheese straws.
