I totally agree with your letter writers M Robinson and D M Deamer about the fouling caused by geese in York’s public spaces.

There is little doubt that human behaviour is partly to blame. When I occasionally asked ahhing and oohhing feeders if they would scatter food for rats they look completely blank.

The others to blame are those who say they will either treat the eggs or move the birds to more suitable sites. I see no sign of any attempt to take hold of this totally inappropriate population.

They say that weeds are only plants in the wrong places: sometimes excrement-producing, aggressive, dangerous road-crossing creatures become vermin in a similar vein.

How much longer will the authorities bury their heads (pardon the adaptation) in the goose poo?
