W Harrison (Letters, May 10) is right about the naivety of a minority of Tramways club members who think a new smaller club in a redevelopment of their site is a viable option. It isn’t.

Remember the Promenade Club in St Benedict Road? Planning permission was granted in 2003 to a developer for 10 apartments with a smaller new clubhouse but it all came to nothing. The club folded.

That site ended up with eight townhouses in 2011 but no clubhouse, the Promenade Club gone forever.

Tramways members would be wise to learn the lesson of that sorry saga and not repeat the same mistake.
