DURING the recent ball tampering incident by members of the Australian Test cricket team in South Africa it was reported by the television and newspapers that Steve Smith, the captain, is the greatest Australian batsman since Don Bradman.

I find these comments very offensive, an insult and a slur on the good name of the Bradman family.

Sir Donald himself was a very successful and very respected captain of Australian Test teams, containing some of Australia’s all-time true legends. He was a role model to any young aspiring players.

I can well remember during one of Sir Donald’s televised interviews when he was asked if he could be remembered by one word, what would it be.

His reply, as quick as his reflexes when batting, was “integrity”.

How will Steve Smith and his associates want to be remembered?

Appeal to track down former school friend

I AM hoping to recover, through your columns, a much-regretted missed opportunity to make contact with a fellow pupil of the Grey Coat School from 72 years ago.

Through a chance encounter in Coppergate on a recent Saturday, around noon, I met her daughter.

Would she please get in touch with me?

Screening proves Jaws still has its bite

A HUGE thank you to the Barbican for showing Jaws with a full 32-piece orchestra.

It was amazing to see a classic film shown this way and it proves that it’s still got bite after 40 years.

Zero rated takeaways should be shut down

TWO York takeaways received zero out of five points for food hygiene (The Press, April 7).

Why did not City of York Council immediately have them closed down?

They are the ones supposedly protecting the public on this issue.
