I AGREE wholeheartedly with the view that both residents of York and visitors to York should have their security catered for (The Press, November 15).

I must, however, express my disgust and concern regarding the very unimpressive concrete blocks that have been placed around the Minster.

When I look at all the splendid and excellent ancient architecture that has been put into the edifice that all visitors and residents alive love, adore and cherish, I must wonder what has happened to all the skills that created such a beautiful building.

Have the stonemasons nothing left in their imaginations than to provide a surrounding barrier of plain, grotesque and horrible looking concrete blocks?

Surely they should be removed immediately and replaced with something more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, even if only to preserve the dignity of York Minster.
