THE last thing Ryedale House needs is a further addition to its height; no matter what design is proposed.
This enormous structure has towered above the skyline and ruined the vista over the Law Courts for nearly half a century.
It is still a mystery how this enormous office block was ever given planning permission.
In 1972, householders were having domestic extensions turned down for being a few inches higher than planners thought acceptable. They still are.
What Ryedale House really needs is at least three storeys taking off it.
The present owners are fortunate that new permitted development rights allow them to convert it into residential units without the imposition of onerous planning demands introduced in the last 20 years.
It is a pity they can’t just accept this benefit and get on with it. Asking for more doesn’t put them in a good light.
