THE Endeavour is coming home - or at least a replica of her is. The real ship in which Captain James Cook first circumnavigated the world lies beneath the waters of Newport Harbour in the US, where she was scuttled by her captain during the American revolutionary war.

But for years, one of two full-sized replicas has been moored in Stockton-on-Tees. Next year, after being bought by a Whitby-based businessman and his partners, she’ll voyage down the Yorkshire coast to Whitby, where she will be moored permanently at the aptly-named Endeavour wharf. Local boy Captain Cook would surely have been delighted.
