ALL the recent articles in The Press regarding the Odeon, its new owners Everyman Cinemas and plans for a full refurbishment are refreshing to read.

I myself do hope it will be a full refurbishment this time of this classic Odeonstyle cinema because it is long overdue.

The Odeon on Blossom Street is a rare and fine example of its day and almost intact in its Odeon features inside.

It has survived decades of being threatened by closure and turned into something else and has been waiting to be brought back to life for a long time now.

As a leading light in The Press campaign in 2006 to save the Odeon I followed its reopening by Reel Cinemas and have enjoyed going back there over the last few years gone.

Sadly, Reel never did a full refurbishment of the building and it always lacked the true atmosphere of a real thirties cinema.

This important cinema should be a part of the tourist city we live in. I wish Everyman Cinemas success in their venture and look forward to seeing and experiencing once more the feel and ambience of the 1937 Odeon I remember well.
