I WATCHED Prime Minister’s Questions last Wednesday and was appalled at the way both Conservatives and Labour were trying to score political points from each other over the disastrous fire at Grenfell Tower.
First one party, then the other, said their opposite numbers were in power at the time the bulk of the aluminium-faced cladding panels were fitted.
The reason those panels were fitted would be quite simple. Cost.
As anyone connected to issuing/reviewing prices for contracts knows, the cheapest quote will always win.
Which will be the reason the cheaper PE cladding was chosen for Grenfell Towers and all the other similarly clad, high-rise buildings, which are now being condemned as unsafe.
Be that as it may for our main political parties to try blame the other for fitting those panels is totally shameful.
It matters not who was in power.
That was then, the tragedy is now and the main concern is getting the survivors from the fire rehoused and the PE panels removed from whichever buildings they are on.
A terrible tragedy which need not have happened.
