I HAVE just listened to the Queen’s Speech at the dressed down occasion of the state opening of Parliament.

The speech itself, while impeccably delivered by Her Majesty the Queen, contained very little about how her Government intends to carry out Parliamentary business in the coming year (or even years), apart from various items connected to Brexit.

I think that out of 24 Parliamentary future acts that were mentioned, 18 were connected to Brexit.

There was a mention that the king and queen of Spain were to be welcomed to Britain, but not a single mention of the state visit by the president of the United States, that readers of The Press may remember as being extended by our clinging-on current Prime Minister Theresa May to the newly-elected USA president Donald Trump.
