I HAVE recently become a volunteer for the charity Autism Plus, which was set up 30 years ago by a group of parents who wanted care and support for their youngsters with autism and associated disabilities.
They have a number of projects based on Yorkshire community and residential settings.
Recently the charity acquired abbey buildings from the Ampleforth Estate and have built a purpose-built chocolate factory and a horticultural project.
Needed are volunteers to work beside service users in the chocolate factory, which is what I am doing. I am enjoying learning more about youngsters with autism and the art of making high end chocolates.
The horticultural project needs volunteers to also work beside service users in the gardens.
Administrative support is also very useful, especially accountancy skills.
If you feel able to support Autism Plus in any way, phone 01439 787185 or email janetjay@autismplus.co.uk.
