RE the article (The Press, April 12) and subsequent letter (April 18) about Rob Cross (known to many as Robbie), I had the pleasure to know Robbie for almost 25 years when he begged outside of the school in which I worked.
He was moved on from there, but took up his pitch a little further down the road.
He always asked after the children, was always pleasant, grateful and a true “gentle” man.
If life had been kinder to him, he would no doubt have been a pillar of the community.
Thanks to all those who helped him over the years, to Father Stephen for his comforting words and special thanks to York Hospital staff who treated him with dignity, care and love during the final months of his cruel illness.
